Suspect in Myrtle Beach tanning salon assaults indicted

An Horry County grand jury indicted a North Carolina man in connection with two assaults in Myrtle Beach.

Larry James Pettit, 39, was indicted on two counts of kidnapping and two counts of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct in the first degree. According to the indictment, on Dec. 2, 2009, Pettit had the intent to engage in sexual battery with two women using aggravated force.

Pettit was arrested in North Carolina and extradited to Horry County to face charges in two assaults that happened on Dec. 2. The first assault happened at Ultra Tan at 38th Avenue North and the second assault happened about a half hour later at Elite Tanning on Robert Grissom Parkway.

Similar stories:

The victim in the second assault ran to the fitness club next door to call police. In both incidents, the women were not harmed, police said.
