A Myrtle Beach teen was arrested early Tuesday in connection with a fatal crash that occurred a week ago when police say he tried to avoid being stopped by an Horry County officer in the Forestbrook community.

Miguel Angel Murillo, 18, of 1107 Cherokee St., was charged with reckless homicide and operating an uninsured motor vehicle in connection with the crash that occurred April 13 on McCormick Road, according to arrest warrants filed Sunday. Murillo was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 1:47 a.m. Tuesday.

Murillo’s teen passenger, Lucero Sanchez Martinez, was pronounced dead at 12:10 p.m. April 13 at Conway Medical Center from massive trauma, according to authorities. Murillo was flown by medical helicopter to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C. He was released from there this week.

State troopers said Murillo, who was driving a Mitsubishi Galant, was fleeing an Horry County police officer when his collided with a Ford Expedition on McCormick Road, about a half mile from Forestbrook Road.

Gary Johnson, the driver of the Ford Expedition, suffered a cut to his leg and some bruises. He was treated and released Tuesday at Conway Medical Center.

On Thursday, police released a dash cam video, which lasted 19 minutes and showed Horry County police Officer Jack Johnson’s vehicle stopped around 11:10 a.m. at an intersection at Forestbrook when he then activated his blue lights and siren and began heading south on Forestbrook Road.

The Galant, heading north on Forestbrook Road, turned right onto McCormick Road as another police car, driven by Officer Steven Grainger, followed. The Galant is seen collided with the Ford Expedition after Johnson turned onto McCormick Road.

Johnson stated in a police report that an off-duty paramedic with Horry County Fire and Rescue was on scene and allowed to begin care for the passenger in the Galant, which is seen in the video.
