There will be a steady parade of celebrities and professional golfers at the Barefoot Resort Dye Club on Monday, but there's a lot you can miss if you don't go prepared.
Maximize your Hootie and the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am experience by knowing where to go and when to go there during the 16th annual event.
You can't go wrong following participants like John Daly, Jim McMahon or Samuel L. Jackson. They're sure to provide entertainment and shenanigans throughout the day. But there are specific areas and events on the course that will guarantee goings-on.
Gates open at 8:30 a.m., and the Taiko Drum Corps kicks off the festivities with a 9 a.m. performance at the first tee. The Long Drive Contest, which usually involves John Daly, members of Hootie and the Blowfish and a lot of banter, follows at 9:15 a.m. on the first tee.
Hootie lead singer Darius Rucker sings the national anthem on the first tee prior to the tournament's shotgun start at 10:30 a.m., and the first tee is the site for continuous entertainment as television personality Craig Melvin announces groups and exchanges lighthearted dialogue with participants in each group.
The 10th tee is the site of some impromptu live music. A pair of guitars are set up on the tee, and musicians in the field gravitate to them as they pass through the hole.
Bosch Tools sponsors music on the fourth hole through a PowerBox360 that is a battery charger and music player, and company executive Robbie Worrell creates a playlist of songs based on tournament participants. The musicians' music is played as they reach the fourth hole. Singalongs have been known to break out, and spectators can enter a drawing for Bosch tools at the tee box as well.
Food and drink are available in tents behind the clubhouse, and offerings include hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, pre-made sandwiches, snacks, soda, PowerAde, water and adult beverages. It has been evident over the years that both spectators and participants have enjoyed the cocktails and beer. A merchandise tent is also nearby.
Carl Michael will be performing magic in the area of the clubhouse and surrounding holes, and he'll include both celebrity participants and spectators in some of the tricks.
There is no specific time or area set up for autographs, though they can be obtained as groups play their way around the course, particularly in the areas of the first and 10th tees, and at the driving range.
In addition to the tee boxes on holes 1 and 10, which is a potentially drivable par 4 with water on the left, other key vantage points on the course are the ninth green, where you can watch up to four different holes, and the fourth tee, where you can also watch the par-3 third hole.
Tickets to the tournament are $15 and available at Barefoot Resort pro shops, the House of Blues and Ticketmaster outlets. Children 12 and under get in free.
A limited number of VIP tickets that include admittance to Saturday and Sunday night parties as well as Monday's concert at the House of Blues may still be available by calling 390-3236.
