A former Coastal Carolina football player was arrested and charged Thursday with multiple felonies after a domestic dispute at a Conway home.
Tyler Campbell, 24, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 9:49 a.m. on charges of kidnapping, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and malicious damage to personal property over $1,000 but less than $5,000, according to jail records.
Campbell has not yet had a bond hearing and remains jailed.
Campbell was involved in an argument that turned physical with his girlfriend, according to a police report. The victim told police that Campbell believed she was cheating on him and stopped by her work at Broadway at the Beach early Thursday morning.
Campbell then went to the victim's home and was involved in an argument with the victim's roommate, the report stated. The roommate told police that Campbell began damaging personal property in the house, including the victim's computer.
The victim returned to the home about 8 a.m. and found that many of her belongings had been damaged, the report stated. After breaking the victim's cell phone as she tried to call her mother, Campbell grabbed the victim by the neck and hit her several times in the head and face with a closed fist and then threatened to hit her with a 10-pound weight.
The victim ran outside and was halfway down the steps when Campbell grabbed her and pulled her back inside the home, the report stated. A witness heard the victim's screams and called 911.
Campbell was a senior for the Chanticleers last fall, playing in nine games mostly as a special teams standout. He finished the season with 11 tackles.
Campbell, a walk on throughout his career who paid for his own schooling, is the cousin of current Atlanta Falcons star receiver Roddy White.
