CONWAY -- Horry County Council Chairwoman Liz Gilland announced at the Horry County Council meeting that a trip taken with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to London and Berlin yielded a promise of new business and a possible new charter flight.

Gilland said during the meeting that the Chamber discussed a business arrangement with private charter flight company to fly charter flights directly from London to Myrtle Beach for two possible periods of the year.

"The two best things that happened on the trip were serious conversations in England, with establishing a two week period in the Spring and or Fall when charter air service might fly direct to London from Myrtle Beach," Gilland said.

Gilland also said she and Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes received a commitment from a travel company in Germany to bring 100 agents to Myrtle Beach to explore the area and the state in the Fall of 2011.

"We spoke with a German tour manager who has 900 travel agents all over Germany. He brings his top 100 sellers to a different state each year. They scour the state...," Gilland said. "We got them to commit that in the Fall of 2011, that we would have 100 of the highest sellers flown to Myrtle Beach. In groups of 20 they will be sent to Charleston and Hilton Head and somewhere in the upstate. Then they will meet back in Myrtle Beach."

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
