North Myrtle Beach High School athletic director Joe Quigley announced that Denver Cromer resigned Tuesday as head football coach, effective immediately.
Quigley said Cromer's decision came as a surprise. "It's a time in his life that I think he is looking to move in another direction," Quigley said. "But North Myrtle Beach is ready to move on and look for the next leader of the North Myrtle Beach football team."
Quigley said Cromer had done a "great job" during his five-year tenure at the school. He said North Myrtle Beach can be a hard place to coach at times, but praised Cromer for his effort and leadership and hopes Cromer's replacement will continue to "teach kids to do things the right way and to be held accountable.''
