Top scorer
Wheeler (Ga.) forward Jelan Kendrick took the ball to the basket for seven second-half layups and finished the game 11-of-20 from the floor and with 25 points. The senior also made a big-time play on the defensive end, stopping an Alexander-Hamilton mini-run when he pinned a fast-break layup on the backboard.
Star of the day
Bishop Gorman (Nev.) senior Jonathan Loyd scored a team-high 17 points without getting a breather and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The 5-foot-8 guard averaged 15.2 points and 5.2 assists in four Beach Ball victories.
Unsung hero
After a 3-for-15 outing, including 1-for-10 from 3-point land in Wednesday's semifinal against Columbia (Ga.), Tanner Milson bounced back and turned in a 6-for-16 performance with four 3-pointers to lead Cedar Hill (Texas) to a 47-46 victory over Scott County (Ky.).
Game of the day
Cedar Hill (Texas) secured a third-place finish after a Scott County (Ky.) miscue with 1.9 seconds remaining resulted in a Ge-Lawn Guyn 30-footer that landed out-of-bounds as time expired. With 13 lead changes, the third-place contest proved to be more entertaining than the final.
