The scorer

Columbia (Ga.) 6-foot-5 senior JerShon Cobb scored the most points in the four opening night games with 27, which was five more than any other player. He hit 11 of 22 shots and 4 of 5 free throws in 30 minutes.

The unsung hero

Concord (N.C.) 5-10 senior guard C.J. Gridine had 18 points and a notable seven rebounds against Myrtle Beach, but most impressive about his performance was that he missed just two of his 11 shots.

The star

Nichols School (N.Y.) 6-8 senior center Will Regan dominated the inside against Daniel to the tune of 22 points, 12 rebounds, seven blocks, two steals and an assist.

The game

Columbia defeated J.L. Mann by three points in the nightcap. Mann scored the first basket of the second half to take the lead but never led again despite cutting the Eagles' lead to one on four occasions, including with 1:34 left.

The matchup

Concord and its high-powered offense that connected on 56 percent of its shots Saturday faces Columbia (Ga.) in Monday's only winner's bracket second-round matchup.
