Hill picks Alabama over UNC

SHALLOTTE, N.C. -- Alfy Hill chose the SEC over the ACC for his college football career.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound West Brunswick (N.C.) senior committed to the University of Alabama at a press conference in the school's cafeteria Wednesday.

Hill's final decision came down to North Carolina and Alabama. In the end, Hill chose to play for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, which before Hill's announcement had the fourth best 2010 recruiting class according to rivals.com.

According to scout.com, Hill is Alabama's 22nd commitment for the 2010 class. In the 2010 class, the senior is rated the 26th best defensive end prospect by scout.com and the 77th best prospect overall by rivals.com.

Hill missed most of his sophomore season with an injury, but had a stellar junior season playing defensive end for the Trojans. Hill finished his junior season with 112 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and four blocked punts, which garnered him scholarship offers from schools such as Clemson, LSU, Michigan and South Carolina.

As a senior, Hill has played middle linebacker for the Trojans to utilize his speed.

Hill cannot sign a binding National Letter of Intent until National Signing Day on Feb. 3, 2010.

The Trojans, a Class 3A North Carolina team and part of the 2A-3A Waccamaw Conference, are 1-1 on the season and host Laney at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
