BB&T Coastal Field, home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, has been rated the top ballpark in the Carolina League by Baseball America magazine.

The ballpark is being honored in the magazine's latest issue, which comes out Monday.

Several minor league officials, club personnel, architects and promoters were polled to compile the top three ballparks in each of the 10 minor leagues, with the short-season and rookie-level leagues combined into one category.

The Pelicans' ballpark opened in 1999. In 2006, the current ownership group purchased the club from Capitol Broadcasting and immediately put a plan together for over $2.5 million in capital improvements to the ballpark, including the addition of a brand new, state-of-the-art video board, Pelicans Beach, the Land Shark Landing, Pepsi Grille, Pelicans Restaurant and a new Ticket Office.

The Pelicans open the 2009 season Thursday, when they host Wilmington at 7:05 p.m.
