Projects put on hold

The recession has forced many developers to put projects on hold until the economy turns. Here's a look at some of the notable developments you won't see until things get better:

Marketplace at Grande Dunes | A mixed-use neighborhood has been considered behind the center at 82nd Avenue North, but has not been subdivided. There are road systems built or under construction to support it, but no other development is taking place. "As market conditions evolve, we'll determine a timeline for planning and developing projects including the build-out of the Marketplace at Grande Dunes," wrote Burroughs & Chapin Co. Inc. spokeswoman Lei Gainer in a statement. "We have many remaining prime parcels of land within Grande Dunes and we're looking forward to bringing an outstanding product mix to the market over many years to come."

Riviera | This 13-floor, 116-unit condo complex is slated to be built on a tract between 77th and 79th avenues North in Myrtle Beach, said Tom Pegram with Pegram Associates, who designed the project.

Paradise Cove | A 245-unit condo tower was approved a few years ago to be built at Ocean Boulevard and Seventh Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, but work hasn't begun on it, Pegram said.

26th Avenue North planned unit development | The Grande Sea Dip condo tower was approved in 2006 to replace three oceanfront hotels in Myrtle Beach. Design drawings are finished but construction has not started, Pegram said.

Grande Palms | A 14-story, 144-unit condo building in North Myrtle Beach has been put on hold, Pegram said.

21st Avenue South | A 20-story, 190-unit condo complex was planned to replace an existing tower, but there's been no activity.

Carolina Station | This master planned development was approved by Horry County Council in July. Project manager Mike Wooten with DDC Engineers Inc. said they are waiting to move forward on construction.

Beneventum Plantation | There are about 10 home reservations for this 165-home community to be built around a 1740s plantation house, said John Miller, one of the developers. "We're ready to put our infrastructure in, we've just been holding back, waiting for the market to firm up."

The Haven at Carolina Forest | Crews have already started putting underground utilities in the tract where this apartment complex next to The Farm neighborhood will go. It's slated to hold more than 300 units and was initially supposed to open to residents in 2009. However, Ben Graves with the development company Johnson Development Associates Inc. said that construction on buildings probably won't start until at least 2010.
