It is one of the most beautiful while also being one of the most difficult holes on the Grand Strand.

Marsh runs down the entire left side of the fairway and intersects the fairway about 180 yards from the green. A tree line runs along the right side of a fairly generous fairway.

A big drive sets up a tempting second shot to a green that few can pull off. The bulkheaded peninsula green shoots farther into the marsh on the left, and the green is 48 yards wide but shallow from the angle across the marsh.

Wind will usually be a factor across the open marsh. The play for most will be an iron to a fairway across the marsh to the right of the green the stretches about 170 yards from the center of the green. But the thin fairway slopes down from mounding behind it and has three bunkers to the back of the right side.

The green is deep but not wide from this angle with a bunker front right. The hole measures 570 from the back tee, 536 from the black, 509 from the white, 461 from the green and 290 from the front blue tee.

quotes
"My favorite par-5 hole. The Shallotte River is spectacular. The tee shot and second shot must be accurate and wind can be a big factor."
John Brasier
"A love or hate hole that will get the discussion going. Gets a low-handicap's attention and intimidates a high-handicap. Requires three well hit shots. Play any shot too safe and the next shot is significantly more difficult."
Arthur Stipo
