Dick Rosen has resigned from AVX Corp.'s board of directors, according to a regulatory filing this week.

Rosen had been chairman since 1997, a member of the board since 1990 and is the company's former CEO. The resignation was effective Monday.

No reason for the resignation was cited in the filing.

Neither Rosen nor a company spokesman could immediately be reached for comment.

Rosen served as AVX's chief executive from April 1993 until he retired in August 2001. He had been with the company since 1972 and guided AVX through its growth in Myrtle Beach and the establishment of a research and development center on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.

Myrtle Beach-based AVX Corp. makes tiny electronic parts that are used in a range of gadgets, from cell phones to computers.

Shares of AVX were up 15 cents to $11.58 in afternoon trading.
