CONWAY | Adam and Eve had their apple – or quince, or pear, or another unknown fruit – and got kicked out of Eden.
Scholars still debate exactly what indulgence caused God to relocate them.
However, there is no doubt about what sweetness is the weakness for Serkan Cankurtaran.

Cranberry season is here

When I was growing up, cranberries came in the form of a wobbly cylinder of jelly straight from the can, with ridged indentations on the side.
Though cranberries were once strictly Thanksgiving fare, I now look forward to the tongue-tingling zing and relish the popping sound of fresh berries year-round. The season for fresh cranberries is a short one, which is why I keep a stash in my freezer so I can use them on a whim.
Cranberries complement sweet and savory foods. Jellied sauces, relishes and chutneys are traditional with turkey and pork. The tart berry requires a large amount of sugar, which makes it a great addition to baked goods such as cobblers, crumbles and cakes. Cranberries are increasingly used to flavor beverages, including smoothies, floats, champagne cocktails and mimosas.

Terry’s Fish House is back, and I am happier than a kid given carte blanche at Toys “R” Us.
Back in 1992, Terry Moore and his wife, Gayle, opened the seafood restaurant.
It stayed open for about 14 years before closing.

Nate Palmer is back in his element – in a hot kitchen bringing the heat the way his mama taught him.
He is owner of Berni’s 501. The Conway eatery, at 2246 E U.S. 501 in the Food Lion plaza, is a funkier version of the former Berni’s Café.
The latter was at 1028 Third Ave. in the heart of downtown Conway, but he closed it four months ago to expand his vision after debuting March 2008.

SoulJah’s is not just a restaurant.
Shawn Hopkins believes it is also a vehicle to enrich the lives of his family, friends and community.
He and his wife, Triana, parents to seven children, are not only serving up authentic Caribbean and soul food but they also are working to empower people.
